Stats Explained: STR, DEX, VIT, AGI, and What They Actually Do

Category: Beginner's Guide | SAO Hollow Realization Guide

A plain-English breakdown of every stat in SAO: Hollow Realization. Stop guessing what to level.

Primary Stats • STR (Strength) -- Increases physical attack power, especially for heavy weapons like Two-Handed Swords and Maces. Also affects how much you can stagger enemies with heavy hits. • DEX (Dexterity) -- Affects critical hit rate, hit accuracy, and attack speed. Most important for Dagger and Rapier users who rely on crits and fast multi-hits. • VIT (Vitality) -- Increases maximum HP, physical defense, and reduces damage taken. Important for every build, but especially for melee fighters who take hits frequently. • AGI (Agility) -- Affects dodge invincibility window, movement speed, attack speed (slightly), and reduces enemy accuracy against you. High AGI makes you harder to hit and more effective at dodging through attacks.

Player Tip: Do not overthink stat allocation on your first playthrough. VIT for survival, then either STR or DEX depending on your weapon type, with some AGI for quality of life. You cannot really 'ruin' a build, and gear gives far more stats than level-up point allocation anyway.

Secondary Stats and Combat Values • ATK (Attack) -- Your raw damage output, derived from STR + weapon ATK value + equipment bonuses. • DEF (Defense) -- Damage reduction, from VIT + armor DEF values. • Accuracy -- Your chance to land hits. Affected by DEX and weapon type (Bows and Rapiers tend to have higher accuracy). • Evasion -- Your chance to evade attacks (separate from manual dodging). Affected by AGI and equipment. • Critical Rate -- Chance to land critical hits for increased damage. Primarily from DEX, weapon skills, and equipment bonuses.

Stat Priority by Weapon • 1HS: Balanced STR/DEX with some VIT. Jack-of-all-trades, so do not neglect any stat. • Rapier: DEX first for crits, then AGI for speed/evasion. VIT can be lower since you avoid hits with positioning. • 2HS: STR and VIT. You will be trading blows; being able to survive them matters. • Bow: DEX for weak point damage and crits. VIT for when enemies close in. • Mace: VIT and STR. You are the tank -- soak up damage while staggering enemies. • Dagger: DEX and AGI. Crits and evasion. You do not want to get hit at all. • Spear: Balanced STR/DEX with some AGI for positioning. • Dual Blades: DEX and AGI for fast crit chains, with enough VIT to survive mistakes.
