Never run out of Col (currency) in SAO: Hollow Realization. Practical farming methods for early, mid, and late game without exploits.
Why Col Matters
Col is the currency of Ainground, and you will spend it constantly: on potions, equipment repairs, blacksmith upgrades, fast travel fees (minor but adds up), gifts for NPC affinity, and skill point respecs. Running out of Col means you venture out under-prepared, which leads to deaths, which leads to repair costs, which creates a vicious cycle.
Early Game (First Few Regions)
• Sell excess common materials. Early-game monster drops (wolf fangs, insect wings, herb bundles) are plentiful. Keep a stack of 10-15 of each for potential quests, and sell everything beyond that.
• Do quest board side quests. The notice board in town offers repeatable and one-time quests that reward Col AND experience while you are already out exploring. These are essentially free money for doing things you would be doing anyway.
• Sell equipment for weapon types you do not use. If you are a One-Handed Sword user, you do not need to hoard every random bow or dagger drop. Sell them to the merchant.
• Gather herbs and crafting materials in the field instead of buying all consumables. You do not need to buy every potion from the shop -- basic healing herbs and SP restoration items drop from field nodes.
• Avoid overspending on blacksmith upgrades early. Upgrading starter gear is a waste of Col because you will replace it quickly. Wait until you find a weapon you plan to keep for a while before investing in upgrades.
Player Tip: Whenever you are heading back to town to sell, repair, and restock, take five extra minutes to gather any herb/mineral nodes you pass on the way back. Every bit of free loot adds up.
Mid Game Farming
Once you have a few regions unlocked, your Col income improves significantly:
• Dungeon runs are your best Col per hour. Even if you can clear a dungeon easily, running through it repeatedly yields rare materials and sellable equipment drops that are worth far more than field trash.
• Boss rematches. After you defeat a boss, you can return to the boss chamber (or leave the area and come back) to fight them again. Boss drops sell for substantial amounts.
• Craft and sell. Once you have access to the blacksmith and enough materials, crafting upgraded weapons and selling them can turn a profit, especially if you gather the materials yourself rather than buying them.
What NOT to Waste Col On
• Overpriced shop equipment. The gear sold in town shops is almost always worse than what you find in chests or as enemy drops in the field. Buy only what you absolutely need.
• Expensive gifts for NPCs early on. Basic gifts work fine for building early affinity. Save the premium gifts for when you are already wealthy.
• Enhancing gear beyond +5 until late game. Enhancement costs scale exponentially, and early gear gets replaced quickly. Find a late-game weapon you plan to stick with before sinking Col into heavy upgrades.
• Unnecessary consumables. Stock HP potions, SP potions, and antidotes (for poison-heavy regions). You do not need every buff item in the shop for regular exploration.
