Inventory Management: What to Keep, Sell, and Discard

Category: Beginner's Guide | SAO Hollow Realization Guide

Stop hoarding useless items. A practical guide to managing your limited bag space in SAO: Hollow Realization.

The Bag Space Problem Your inventory has a fixed number of item slots. When you are out in the field or deep in a dungeon, you will pick up a LOT of loot: monster drops, chest gear, crafting materials, consumables, and treasure items. Running out of space mid-dungeon means you cannot pick up boss drops, which are some of the best items in the game.

Always Keep Stocked • 10-15 HP Potions (more for long dungeons) • 5-10 SP Potions • Antidotes and any status heal items relevant to the current region • Your best available weapon plus a backup if you have one • Teleport crystals (if you have them -- some are consumable emergency teleports)

Sell Without Hesitation • Common monster materials that you have more than 15-20 of. Most materials drop frequently enough that you will never run out. • Equipment for weapon types you have no intention of using. If you are a sword user, you do not need to hoard every mace or bow drop. • Gear that is clearly worse than what you are currently wearing. Check the stats comparison -- if it is not an upgrade, sell it. • Treasure items specifically labeled as sellable (these exist just to be converted to Col). • Duplicate copies of equipment pieces. You only need one copy of any given gear piece.

Player Tip: There is no separate bank or storage box in Hollow Realization. If you are keeping something 'just in case,' sell it. Common materials respawn/drop again, early-game gear gets replaced, and you can always buy back basic consumables. Hoarding is the #1 reason people run out of bag space mid-dungeon.

Materials Worth Keeping Rare monster drops from later regions, enhancement materials for blacksmith upgrades (especially higher-grade ores and rare monster parts), and items needed for NPC affinity gifts should be held onto. If you are unsure about a material, keep one stack of it until you know whether you need it. When in doubt during a dungeon run: prioritize picking up equipment over common materials. Rare gear drops sell for more and may be direct upgrades.
